Chocolate Nutella Cookies

What’s this? Another Nutella recipe? Oh, I do believe so. I can’t help myself. I have a crush on Nutella. I see an interesting Nutella recipe and I must make it.

I recently came across this accurate depiction of myself on the internet:

However did they find out about my bushy tail?

I really enjoy having crushes. They’re fun, fantastical and just unreasonable enough to be interesting. I don’t have as many boy-crushes these days, what with a husband and all (aside from unattainable boys like Joseph Gordon Levitt and Ryan Reynolds), so these days I mostly have crushes on food. Don’t tell me you don’t have them too. Ever met chocolate?

I’ve got it bad for Nutella. I want to sit in a dark room with it, just the two of us.

Y’know how when you’ve got a crush on a particularly cute boy, you’ll volunteer to do really tedious things just for the possibility of being near him? Like in highschool when you volunteer to clean the really dusty prop closet in the darkest, grossest corner of the school because your crush is into drama and that somehow might lead into hanging out with him?

The recipe says that these cookies come out more on the crispy side. I am not a fan of crispy cookies. I like fudgey, chewy, soft, under-done cookies. Crispy cookies are not my style. But it said Nutella cookies. I just wanted some Nutella, even if I had to eat crispy cookies for it.

And you know what? Like that smile and the “Hey, awesome!” your crush tosses your way when he sees the prop room? That’s all you really need to make it worthwhile. These cookies are delicious despite their crispiness. All chocolatey-hazelnut goodness. Also, their centers are still a little chewy.

Don’t you wish all crushes could be as simple as putting a spoon in a jar?

Chocolate Nutella Cookies

Recipe from SimplyRecipes.com

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of Nutella
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups, plus 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of chopped hazelnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Cream butter in an electric mixer for 3 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the sugars and Nutella and mix well, scraping down the sides of the bowl to ensure even mixing.
  2. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating for 30 seconds between each. Add the vanilla and mix for 10 seconds.
  3. Sift together the flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda (do not skip this step as sifting eliminates clumps of cocoa). Mix into the butter mixture on low speed until fully incorporated, scraping down the bottom and sides at least once to ensure even mixing. Fold in the chocolate chips and hazelnuts and refrigerate the dough for ten minutes.
  4. Spoon tablespoon-sized drops of dough onto parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool on the sheets for a minute or two before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Makes approx. 6 dozen.

  1. I love your blog and I love these cookies!!! I think I might be your long, lost cousin as I see so much of myself in your writing and love of baking!!! (And your Nutella crush. As a girl I would eat it by the spoonful. Yum!!!)

  2. I came across your blog just a week back and am hooked on to it. Have tried out a couple of recipes too….and thank you, they came out just great. A small q, is there any replacement for the parchment paper, as it is not available where I stay.

    • Thanks so much! Is there a particular recipe you’re thinking of? In general, parchment paper is more so a convenience, it helps baked goods come out of pans more easily. Typically a really good greasing of the pan (or greasing + a dusting a flour for cakes) can keep this issue in check, the paper is just additional insurance.

  3. I literally just found your blog this morning and scrolling through it, I didn’t even realize it’s already afternoon! What a wonderful baker you are, I’ve already tried out another recipe and prepping for this one! Thank you for these amazing recipes to feed my baking obsession. The only thing is, I wish I didn’t live in Belize due to the lack of some fancy schmancy ingredients in other recipes :( no worries, sometimes simple is wonderful! Obviously seen here!
    All the best,
