I’m kind of obsessed with muffins lately.
I just keep opening my cupboards on Saturday mornings to see what I can stuff into a muffin so that I may eat many muffins.
They’re like healthy versions of cakes for breakfast! At least the “healthy” part is what I tell myself while I’m halfway through my second muffin in 5 minutes…
Store bought muffins always look twice the size of homemade muffins, with ballooning tops of crusty goodness. Why is that?
I figured out the deep dark secret they’re not telling you.
How does one get muffins twice the size?
Use twice the batter.
No really, I’m serious.
I’m back from Japan! And I’m horribly jetlagged!
Woo woo woo!
I’m in one of those moods where I’m a little obnoxiously hyper because I’m overcompensating for the fact that I really just wish I was taking a nap. But I can’t take a nap because that would just make this whole readjustment period longer and I’m already back at work and I just need to go go go go…
Go to BED, I need to go to bed.
No I don’t, It’s like 6pm.
Or DO I?
Oh, before I forget, Japan was AWESOME!
I ate so much food.
It’s tiiiime for another edition of… It’s a lazy Sunday but I still want some baked goods!
It’s a working title.
I know it’s not actually Sunday, but sometimes Sundays can be so lazy that you don’t get around to telling anyone about them until a few days later.
Trevor and I are having a lazy weekend.
As I type, we’re sitting in a coffee shop, sun pouring through the windows, paper cups of delicious caffeine by our side. Trevor is rotating between reading a book and playing video games. I’m carefully editing photos and now writing this blog post. The only sad part of it all is that we’re not basking directy in the (rare) Seattle sun at one of the patio tables. Editing photos in the sun is not realistic. All the colours start to look the same. The same colour of sun glare on a laptop screen.
Maybe we’ll be out there later with the pups.
Come. Come come. Have a seat with me. I have something I need to discuss.
Grab a chair and a muffin. Oh, and some coffee, definitely, muffin + coffee make for a deadly duo. I would argue even better than donut + coffee. Except maybe Krispy Kremes and coffee. Krispy Kreme glaze is so delicious but coats your mouth like nobody’s business and coffee cuts through it beautifully, preparing your mouth for that next bite…
Er, sorry, tangent.
Here’s what I actually wanted to discuss: I think continental breakfast gets a bad rap.
I had a hankering for scones.
The problem with scones is how clearly designated they are to breakfast.. and maybe tea time. I often choose to smudge the meal lines, eating pancakes for dinner or cereal for dessert.. (mmm chocolate cheerios…) but something about the standard scone makes it so very breakfast for me. Perhaps it’s how “proper” a scone feels and its association with Britain. If you’re not eating it at breakfast, there better be a teacup in your other hand, or somewhere out there the Queen would just know, a frown slowly drifting across her face.
Perhaps I’m being a little theatrical here, but just to be safe, what if you could do something to change this view? Jazzed it up some so it would already be a little more laid back and little less proper by the time you got to it. Something that said, nuh uh, no tea drinking with me, you need milk. Maybe even some black coffee. Or tea if you really want to… y’know, whatever, s’cool. What could possibly give it this laid back attitude?
